Will you communicate with my doctor?
Most definitely! In fact, everytime you return to your doctor for a follow-up visit we will fax a progress letter to him/her.

Do you treat one area or the whole body?
Our evaluation will include an entire body scan, because the origin of your pain is not necessarily in the same location as the actual pain. So, we may need to treat other areas of the body to alleviate your pain. As you will learn during your physical therapy treatments, all of our body parts have many amazing interconnections that cannot be ignored by your therapist.

Are exercises part of physical therapy?
Of course, but we need to eliminate or alleviate your pain first. In order for your exercises to work properly, they cannot hurt. If you preceive muscle fatigue, burn or strain, we consider that normal. Pain is one way your body tells you (sometimes screams at you) that something is wrong. You should never ignore it. The sooner you attend to it, the sooner it can usually be alleviated.

How long will my appointment take?
Plan on an hour for each visit. It will never be more than an hour. If you need less time on some days due to your schedule, we will be happy to accomodate you. Just let us know prior to your appointment.

How many visits will I need?
This is a tough question to answer because each patients needs are individual. For example, a patient who has had surgery will generally need more visits than a patient who has recently injured their low back. Remember, for those patients with long standing pain, we expect to make changes quickly. We average about 8 visits for every new patient.

Will you tell me how I am doing?
Absolutely! But what is more important to us is how you feel. We will always be reassessing your condition and reporting objective progress, but nothing is more important to us than your subjective comments in regards to pain relief and your ability to return to your normal lifestyle.

Will I need to come back to physical therapy occasionally for a "tune up?"
Many patients prefer to come back once a month or once per quarter so they can continue to feel good. This is dependent on each patients condition and individual needs. I will also give you exercises to assist you in maintaining a pain free lifestyle.

What if I do not get better?
Unfortunately, we cannot help every patient. We do promise that we will do whatever we can to find the right person for you and your condition.
